Where is Eastern Windward, Oahu?

Eastern Windward Oahu generally refers to the coast from Hauula, all the way down to Waimanalo Beach.

This region of Oahu contains a lot of Oahu’s mountains and coastal towns, with towns of outdoor and beach activities to partake in. It borders the Ko’olau Range and is great for those who want a variety of great views and outdoor activities.

Best Ways To See East Windward Oahu

If you are starting from Waikiki, there are 2 great routes to see this side of Oahu. Hop onto Highway 72 East (also known as Kalaniana’ole Highway) and take in the great scenery of the ocean along this drive. You can also stop by Hanauma Bay before hitting the more dramatic views like Makapu’u Point and Lighthouse. You will be greeted with sprawling views of the coastline and offshore islands.

You can also take the drive up Highway 61 (Pali Highway) through the mountains. Stop at the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout for a panoramic view of the Windward Coast, which is also a historic landmark where King Kamehameha I won the Battle of Nu’uanu to unite the Hawaiian Islands under his ruling. When you reach the end of the highway, you’ll arrive in Kailua town. You’ll want to stop by Lanikai beach as it is highly ranked among some of the best beaches in the world due to its picturesque views, and looks exactly like those beautiful beaches that come to mind when you think of “paradise”.

The best part of Eastern Oahu is you can choose your own route. We highly recommend checking out maps of the area and planning a route of your own. This lets you customize it, and while it won’t be a seamless trip you can make all the stops you desire. Most of the highways on eastern Oahu will be great choices, and you won’t be disappointed regardless of which one you pick.
