Where Is Lanikai Beach Park?

Lanikai Beach Park sits on the east coast of Oahu’s shoreline. You can reach it by taking the Pali Highway or the coastal Kalaiana’ole Highway. Each one will take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour depending on traffic and the time of year.

Parking At Lanikai Beach Park

There is no public parking on this beach and on the weekend, neighborhood parking is not allowed. Once you see the vast amount of people that visit on the weekends, you’ll understand why they do not allow neighborhood parking on busy days.

The best way to access it without dealing with traffic is to park at Kailua Beach Park. It’s a brief 10-minute walk, and Kailua has plenty of parking space. You can check out our complete guide to Kailua Beach Park if you’re interested in spending a day there as well.

On slower days you can park in the neighborhood, just remember to park in locations that do inconvenience residents or other drivers. Bathrooms and amenities can be reached by walking back to Kailua Beach Park.

Lanikai Pillbox Hike

The Lanikai Pillbox Hike is one of the most popular trails on Oahu. The hike takes you to two WWII-era pillboxes with panoramic views of the Windward Coast. The trail is just under 2 miles and relatively easy to hike. Most people take about an hour to complete the hike. The trailhead is located in Lanikai, a residential neighborhood on the windward side of Oahu.

The best time to hike the trail is early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun is not as strong. It’s important to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water, as there is no shade on the trail. There are also no restrooms or facilities on the trail, so make sure you go before you start hiking.

Pack A Snorkel For Lanikai Beach

Its clear blue waters and white sand beaches make it a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The beach is also known for its abundant marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling, so make sure to bring or rent some snorkel gear.

Visitors can see a variety of fish, turtles, and other creatures while swimming in the shallow waters off the beach. Lanikai beach is also a great place to watch the sunset, as the sunsets over the water are simply beautiful.
